How to Build a Project-Based Workspace Using Assignee

Most people think in terms of apps. But productivity pros think in projects.

Assignee helps you switch from app-first to project-first workflows.

Step 1: Define Your Projects

Examples:

  • “Client A Website”
  • “Book Writing”
  • “App Launch Plan”

Step 2: Group Your Tools

For each project, list the apps and files you use:

  • Notion page
  • Terminal window
  • Slack thread
  • Figma file

Step 3: Create a Desktop for Each Project

Set up a dedicated desktop (virtual workspace) for every project you’re working on. Move all relevant windows—docs, chats, design files—into that desktop. This keeps your project context clean and focused.

Step 4: Build Shortcut Layers in Assignee

Assign each project to a Control key layer that works within its desktop:

  • Control + Tab, N → Notion
  • Control + Tab, T → Terminal
  • Control + Tab, S → Slack

When you want to switch between projects (desktop spaces) use Control + ← / →.

This way, you stay focused on a single project and instantly pull up everything you need—no distractions, no context switching.

Final Thought

Switching apps is fine. Switching projects with full context? That’s next level. Use Assignee to build your own personal workspace switcher.
